Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your baking dish thoroughly.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, melted butter, and 2 eggs.
Mix until a thick dough forms. The texture should be similar to cookie dough.
Transfer this mixture into your prepared baking dish.
Press the dough evenly across the bottom using your hands or a spatula, making sure the layer is uniform.
If using nuts or chocolate chips, sprinkle them evenly over the base layer.
In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth and creamy.
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Gradually add powdered sugar while mixing on low speed to avoid mess.
Add vanilla extract and continue mixing until the mixture is smooth, thick, and lump-free.
Pour the cream cheese mixture evenly over the cake base.
Use a spatula to spread it gently to the edges.
Tap the pan lightly on the counter to remove any air bubbles.
Place the pan in the oven and bake for 35–40 minutes.
The edges should be golden brown while the center remains slightly soft.
Do not overbake—the center should stay gooey for the signature texture.
Remove from the oven and allow the cake to cool completely in the pan.
As it cools, the top layer will set slightly while remaining soft inside.
Once cooled, dust lightly with powdered sugar if desired.
Slice into squares or bars using a sharp knife.
Serve at room temperature for the best texture and flavor.
